Daily Attendance Reminder
Reporting an Absence or Late Arrival
If your child will be absent or late:
Each Friday your child will bring home a folder with class work, newsletters, permission slips, etc. Please look over the work with your child, fill out any forms and return the folder on Monday.
Homework Folder
First Grade has nightly Reading Homework. Each child will bring home a plastic baggie and a book to read aloud at home every night. Specific details about this assignment can be found in the reading bag. We will start this in a few weeks.
Snacks
Students need snacks! Please send nutritious, not sugary, snacks, for both morning and afternoon snack time. Popular items are fruit, cheese, vegetables, crackers, yogurt etc. Because we have books out during snack please do not send drinks. Students are encouraged to bring a water bottle from home and it is kept by the sink. Please pack the snacks separately from the cold lunch, otherwise children tend to eat it all early in the day.
Due to the number of students with allergies or special dietary needs, we do not permit students to share snacks.
Recess and Lunch
The students go to lunch first and then to recess. We will help them in the cafeteria for the first week, so that they will feel comfortable with the lunchtime routine. Please send appropriate clothing for the weather as we go outside for morning and lunch recess. Please let us know if your student is not finishing lunch or if you have some other concern. Lunchtime can be very confusing, especially at the beginning!
*Reminder that this year, lunch and morning snack are available for free. Check this link for the lunch menu: https://foe.bvsd.org/school-life/lunch-menus
Allergies or Restricted Diet
Please let us know as soon as possible if your student has allergies or a restricted diet.
Birthdays
Due to the increasing number of food allergies and dietary restrictions, we will not be allowing birthday treats of any kind in the classroom. We are happy to sing the “Happy Birthday” song and give special acknowledgement on the special day. Thank you for your understanding.
Schedule Changes
If your child is going home with someone else, please email your teacher and/or send a note. We cannot release a child to an unknown or unscheduled person. Your child’s safety is our first priority. If you need to take your child out of school early for any reason (appointments, etc.) please let us know and then you will sign them out when you pick up.
Also, the office would appreciate it if you would give them 2 weeks’ notice if you plan to take your child on a trip during the school week.
Class Volunteers
We are looking forward to having parent volunteers this year, beginning some time in October. Please stay tuned for more information. Please see the info below on district policies for volunteers.
Volunteering at School
Please read the following important information regarding volunteering at Foothill and the Raptor Visitor and Volunteer Management System, now being used in all BVSD schools.
BVSD requires an approved Raptor volunteer application to volunteer, ride the bus on field trips or supervise children on field trips.
