Hello Families! Happy Fall!
We're all happy to feel our routines are established and are enjoying the cooler temperatures! Literacy Updates: This week during our Fundations time, we have been learning digraphs (ex: sh, ch, wh, th, ck). Have your child show you how we tap out our sounds. Practice with words like ship, must. See what they can do! We're continuing to read "good fit" books in our book boxes and do a variety of writing activities. Your child has also started meeting in a reading group. Math: We have finished Unit 1 and are moving on to Unit 2 which focuses on strategies for addition. We continue to build number sense and talk about how we show thinking in math. Science: We finished our unit on seeds and plants and we'll begin learning all about bats. We'll read several books about bats to practice fact and opinion. We'll work in some fun art projects to help us get in a Halloween mood! Social/Emotional: We continue to practice school behavior such as whole body listening, being kind to others, thinking before we act, giving friendly reminders. We're enjoying twice monthly lessons with our school counselor, Ms. B, that help us recognize our feeling zones: red, yellow, blue and green. See if your child can tell you what feelings belong in each zone and some strategies for self regulating. Other reminders: Please remember to send a lot of healthy snacks! We're working hard and get hungry! As the weather cools, please label and pack layers so we're ready for any temperature. Mabel's Labels will save you some time! Our volunteers will start next week. You will get a reminder from Help at School if you've signed up! Thanks so much, The First Grade Team |
