Literacy
We are excited to see our students’ growth in reading as they have all been working so hard in and out of the classroom on their literacy skills. In Writer’s Workshop we are paying closer attention to the correct spelling of high frequency words and learning how to edit our writing for spelling errors. We’ve talked about adding details to our writing as well as using juicy words or words that describe. We will work on Opinion Writing in December. During this month, we will do some fun winter activities and incorporate those into our literacy and math blocks. Math In math we are continuing to work on writing and solving story problems as well as finding the missing addend to solve addition and subtraction equations. Students should be working on automaticity of math facts 0-12. Check this link for math games you can play with a deck of cards. Playing games at home is a great way to reinforce these math skills! Science/Social Studies We will be busy finishing up our Families unit this month. We have been enjoying learning about how families are alike and different in many ways. As a part of this, we will learn a bit about different holidays celebrated in the winter. Reminders Please remind your child to read each night and record their minutes on our new Gingerbread Reading Log. Please remember to label, label, label snow clothes and boots! Snow clothes look alike and having names on them is a HUGE help! Also, please send in extra shoes on these snowy, muddy days. Especially when we have PE, it’s a big help to be able to change out of snow boots inside. Muffin Morning We will be celebrating our “Classroom Family” on Wednesday, December 20th with muffins, fruit, cheese, and juice. Please click on the link of your child’s classroom if you would like to contribute to our brunch. Thank you!
